Scenic concert No. 4

8th of march, 20h in the church of St. Mary, Avenwedde-Bahnhof Friedrichsdorf/Avenwedde (ts). After we were invited in a very anxious way, we now feel up to accept this invitation and we will perform our next scenic concert in our neigbour deanery in Friedrichsdorf-Avenwedde. Saturday, 8th March at 20:00h we will be guests in the church of St. Mary in Avenwedde-Bahnhof, Güthstraße. Another challenge for our engineers as you can see on the picture on the right: The quadrate form of our "stage". The audience will benefit from this situation. They were never as near to the actors as this time - provided that they are the first to be in the church. But be sure: every seat gets the best view. Lets just wait and see how the image will be with all the light and sound engineering - and the audience of course. But before we make it public here, come and get your own picture of the show. Admission free! But we are happy about every viewer and also every donation at the end of the concert. If you are not convinced yet: just listen in here.

Scenic concert in the cathedral of Paderborn Paderborn (ts). We have to admit, that  performing a scenic concert is as delightful as travelling all around the country with it. But if someone gives the go-ahead to perfom your "musical" in the cathedral of Paderborn the excitement knows no limits. After our first successful outside performance the bar is risen not only for light and audio engineering, but also for dramatic reasons and the number of viewers. For this purpose we chartered a bus our parish in Bielefeld to Paderborn - an is was packed, even if this range came on short call. This is one reason why there were at last more than 200 people in the audience who were highly impressed. It was a great challenge for our singers and actors to work with the special reverb. But we did it and Lindbergh's final cry for help was therefore one of the greatest moments of the evening. This performance gave our audience the gooseflesh from the beginning until the end. Scenic concert in Steinhagen

1st away game Steinhagen (ts). Even before we had the premiere of our scenic concert in Bielefeld-Dornberg it was already certain, that our first outside performance would be in Steinhagen. This was very exciting, because ist was also the first time, that we had to asjust the scenes to the new premises. The wide floor of the sanctuary – the structure where the altar is located - had to be filled with life, so that every viewer could see as good as possible. That's not only fascinating for the plot, but also for our sound and lighting engineers. But it worked! And the 200 people in the audience were positively inspired. Now it is time to respire, to breath deeply. And soon we will pack our backs again for our next performance...

Participation in World Youth Day cancelled

Costs out of proportion Bielefeld (ts). can carmina has decided not to take part in the Wold Youth Day 2008 in Sydney, Australia. The sheer enormity of the air fare is out of all proportion: Today you can book a flight online for EUR 1150. But only up to 6 persons. The range for 25 Persons is EUR 1600  (group price). Every travel agency we reqested doesn't know what the world's coming to. We will not be a party of that! Get more information from this open letter (german).

Magnificent premiere Bielefeld (ts). 1 year of preparation, innumerable hours of singing, practicing, illuminating and mixing sound. On the 27th of October we had our world premiere of the scenic concert. It was magnificent! Everything worked out like we imaginated before. The audience was enthusiastic and we touched the hearts off the people an the spark was ignited. Now it is time to breath deeply and then we will go on to our next performances: December 1st, Church of St. Hedwig, Steinhagen February 1st 2008, Cathedral of Paderborn If you haven't seen the premiere, just keep these dates in mind and check out the new informations on this site.

Up-coming steps Bielefeld/Germany (mp). The WYD 2008 is approaching. So various preparations are coming up. On the one hand we put much effort into our “somewhat different concert” (read more about that in a few weeks). On the other hand we have contacted the WYD08 Team. This week we are going to mail an impressive book with photographs and a CD down-under – keep your fingers crossed for us so that we will be chosen for one or two appearances during WYD. Since we believe that the book is brilliant we are thinking about producing a greater quantity for sale. Anyway, with each of these steps there are more butterflies in our stomachs.

Not only a concert… Bielefeld/Germany (mp). For several months some members of the choir have done a good job: they collected ideas, rejected them, developed a scenario and finally presented it to the complete choir at our Christmas party. Now we all agree: in 2007 we will take an important step towards participating in the Sydney WYD. What is this step? To say it simply: it is not only a concert. In other words: it is a completely new way for you as well as for us. Something that we all will enjoy for a long time. Have we made you curious? Our ambitious time scheme will be published shortly. can carmina participates in the World Youth Day 2008! Bielefeld/Sydney (ts). It is official: can carmina will participate in the World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney! The Vocalists decided unanimously in a general assembly to accept the invitation, which was extended by Pope Benedict XVI. On the "Marienfeld" in Cologne in August 2005: "And now, as the living presence of the Risen Christ in our midst nourishes our faith and hope, I am pleased to announce that the next World Youth Day will take place in Sydney, Australia, in 2008." Two years of endurance and patience lie ahead of the musicians now. For example the expenses for the flights to Australia have to be covered. This ought to be done by different activities, which are already in preparation of the members of can carmina. On the World Youth Day 2005 in Cologne can carmina had already prepared two catechesis’ with the community "L’Arche", the "Theaterwerkstatt" from Bethel, Bielefeld and the community "Faith and Light" in a exhibition hall of the KölnMesse. After that experience it was beyond all question for the 23 singers, if the World Youth Day 2008 goes without can carmina. And perhaps the have the chance to get a gig there.

We were there: at the World Youth Day 2005 in Cologne. Including the preparation and all the preliminary performances this was can carmina's greatest success. And with the following gigs the incredible atmosphere from the WYD held on: Another concert in St. Jodokus, and a Christmas Concert in co-operation with the Polizeichor Bielefeld. Want more? 2 Confirmation Masses, 1 Wedding Mass, 11 Masses in our home-parish, 1 performance on ACM-service in Augustdorf, at the radiostation WDR, one training-weekend in Schieder-Schwalenberg. And: over 20 highly motivated singers. All in all a very positive review of 2005, and a warm and nice party, where this picture comes from.

New faces at can carmina

The choir warmly welcomes 7 new singers What could please a conductor more than half a dozen new singers. For sure, this is more than a good start into 2005. Actually the choir consists of more than 22 people, whereas the CD half a year before was performed only by 13 young people. Extremly good atmosphere and a positive thinking is specially needed in the year of the World Youth Day in Cologne: can carmina is right now beginning to prepare 2 shows that will performed on a stage in Cologne Exhibition Center with an audience not less than 1000 people.
